Timberview High School Band Director

Mr. Sonny Martinez

Mr. Sonny Martinez is serving his third year as the Head Band Director for the Timberview High School Band in Mansfield I.S.D. and his thirteenth year as a director in the state of Texas.  Before coming to Timberview, Mr. Martinez spent 6 years at Keller High School and 5 year at Euless Junior High. As the Assistant Director of Bands at Keller High School, he was the director of the Symphonic Band, which continued a tradition of first division ratings in concert and sight-reading contests.  Mr. Martinez also directed the high school's Jazz Band and facilitated the beginning band program at Bear Creek Intermediate, a feeder school for Keller High School.

During his tenure in Keller, the Keller band was named the 4A State Honor Band in 1998-1999 and placed 2nd in the 4A State Marching Contest in 1999.  Under his direction, the Symphonic Band won "Best in Class" at the South Coast Music Festival in the spring of 2001 and 2004, and the band was named Runner-up in 2002.

Previous to teaching at Keller, Mr. Martinez taught in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford School District at Euless Jr. High School.  While at Euless, Mr. Martinez increased the size of the band program from 110 students to over 370.  The band also started a tradition of first division ratings at concert and sight-reading contest.  In his last year at Euless, Mr. Martinez was named "Teacher of the Year."  He was also named to "America's Who's Who Among American School Teachers" for four consecutive years.

Mr. Martinez earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.  He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association and an alumni member of Kappa Kappa Psi honorary band fraternity.  Mr. Martinez is also an active adjudicator and clinician in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

Timberview High School
Assistant Band Director

Mr. Marcus Bryant

 

 

This is Mr. Marcus Bryant third year as the Assistant Band Director for the Timberview High School Band.  Prior to coming to Timberview, he spent seven years as a band director in the state of Texas.  Mr. Bryant came to us from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, Texas, where he was the Directors of Bands.  There he was the director of the Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and the Jazz Ensemble-- which all have received superior ratings at contest.

Mr. Bryant has also worked in the Keller Independent School District.  During his time there, he worked as an assistant at Fossil Ridge High School where the Wind Ensemble placed third in State Honor Band Competition and fourth in State Marching Band Competition.  He also served as Jazz Band Director and his jazz ensembles have won numerous Jazz Festival competitions.  His concert bands received superior ratings at UIL competition and Best in Class awards.

Following his teaching at Fossil Ridge High School, Mr. Bryant taught at Hillwood Middle school in Keller.  While there, the band started a tradition of first division ratings at concert and sight-reading contest as well as Best in Class at the Peak Music Festival.

Mr. Bryant earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.  He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and an alumni member of Phi Mu Alpha, a professional music fraternity.

Timberview High School
Percussion Specialist

Mr. Ben Scearce

 

 

Ben Scearce is the Percussion Specialist at Timberview High School in Mansfield, Texas where he teaches beginning percussion classes at both Mary Lillard Intermediate and Della Icenhower Intermediate Schools, coordinates all percussion students at James Coble and Danny Jones Middle Schools, and oversees all percussion activities for Timberview High School. 

Scearce holds a Bachelors degree in Music Education from Oklahoma State University, and recently graduated from Texas Christian University with his Masters in Percussion Performance.  While at T.C.U., he instructed the marching drumline, percussion ensembles, taught lessons, and instructed the steel band for the school of music.  Scearce was on percussion staff at the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps during the summer of 2004. From 2001-2004 he was the percussion specialist and assistant band director for the Burkburnett Independent School District in Burkburnett, Texas.  While in Burkburnett, the marching band received its first superior rating at U.I.L. marching contest in 12 years.  The Burkburnett percussion ensembles received superior ratings at the region and state levels. The Burkburnett High School percussion ensemble received 2nd place at the Tarleton State University's Day of Percussion.  His 7th grade band received "Outstanding Band" at the Jacksboro music festival and received a U.I.L. sweepstakes award in 2003 and 2004.

His performance credits include a P.A.S. High School Tenor Drum title in Phoenix, Arizona, Oklahoma State University's P.A.S. winning "Call for Tapes" Percussion Ensemble, Marimba soloist with the O.M.E.A. selected Percussion Ensemble, the O.S.U. indoor P.A.S.I.C. drumline, Texas Christian University’s P.A.S. winning "Call for Tapes" Percussion Ensemble, T.M.E.A. selected Percussion Ensemble, as well as doing substitute timpani work with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.  Scearce has studied with Wayne Bovenschen, Dr. Brian West, Paul Rennick, Joey Carter, and Dr. Richard Gipson.  Ben is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and is an educator's endorsee of the Vic Firth Company.
